EBA has a strong corporate commitment to giving back to our local communities where our employees work, live, and play. For more than 30 years, our company and employees have contributed thousands of dollars and volunteer hours. What we do (products & services)
EBA’s professional services include civil/site, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, water resources, and water systems engineering; construction management and inspection; asset management; surveying and mapping; materials testing; geospatial technologies; and facilities support services. Founded in 1981, EBA has 200 employees in 5 offices and provides services to public, quasi-public, and private clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

EBA believes a healthy work-life balance is very important. We encourage our employees to make sure work never gets in the way of being able to support their families and the causes they are passionate about. We offer ample PTO.
The one thing our team loves the most about our benefits system?
While 401k participation is urged, EBA Engineering is also an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) company. All EBA employees become eligible to participate in the ESOP after completing a full year of service. Over the last several years, EBA stock has grown steadily.
Why you will appreciate our office space, layout and environment.
Our award-winning headquarters in Laurel, MD, encompasses the full second floor of the building; our AASHTO-accredited laboratory is located on the first floor. The office space is divided into several large sections, with the largest areas as open-concept providing an uninhibited view from one end to the next. Individual offices line the exterior of the space, with glass walls and doors providing external views and giving the office a modern feel. Employees are free to decorate their cubicles and offices, and several of our prominent projects are highlighted as wall art throughout the space.

Our four other offices in the Mid-Atlantic are smaller in scale, though also modern in design, and allow us to provide services directly to communities in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.

Our EBA family comes together for mid-day potlucks, holiday celebrations, and volunteer events throughout the year. We love having time to take a short break, share some food, and catch up with one another.

EBA is committed to encouraging our staff to live healthy, happy lives. Our comprehensive health care plan offers incentives for preventive care, and our online portal provides access to health coaches, advice, and ways to track healthy living practices. In conjunction with our insurance provider, we also offer many health seminars throughout the year to help our employees make informed health decisions for themselves and their families.
How we handle flex-time and telecommuting
At EBA, we strive to accommodate flex-time and telecommuting when possible. Because of the nature of our services, some positions require employees to work in the field, meet directly with clients, and/or meet our clients’ deadlines. However, if available and discussed with his/her immediate supervisor, employees may access material and work remotely.
Our process for regular review and feedback for employees?
At EBA, each employee has an annual performance evaluation conducted by his/her immediate supervisor. This meeting covers not only the employee’s progress, achievements, and areas of improvement over the last year, but also is used to set upcoming goals for work responsibilities, career growth, and personal growth. It also tracks the supervisor’s role in helping the employee reach those goals and achieve success.

Around the same time, EBA distributes a supervisor survey to all employees. This allows our staff to provide feedback, voice concerns, and recognize achievements of any/all supervisor(s) they work with at EBA.
Our process for career development or job advancement programs
EBA strongly believes in providing our employees with opportunities to grow and succeed. We offer a mentorship program that pairs senior staff members with employees in a mentor-mentee relationship to provide one-on-one career development guidance.

We encourage our staff to:
• Attend trainings at various conferences or through professional organizations to expand their knowledge base and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies.
• Present on and publish their work in the industry. (EBA offers an honorarium for employee publications/presentations.)
• Engage in cross-training and learn about their colleagues’ work in other departments.

If employees want to continue their education, we offer an assistance program to help make that a reality.

How we handle employee recognition or appreciation programs
We value our employees’ skills and the superior services they provide, internally and externally. Our Employee Awards program recognizes these efforts through three internal awards:

• On the Spot. This is an immediate recognition for employee(s) who have gone above and beyond his/her normal duties.
• Employee of the Year. This annual award recognizes an employee who has exemplified excellence in the past year, continuously goes above and beyond in his/her role, and lives EBA’s motto of “where commitment counts.”
• Project/Program of the Year. This annual award recognizes that year’s best small project/program and large project/program as well as the team members responsible for each.

Each award comes with a monetary prize. On the Spot and Employee of the Year awards are nominated by any employee within EBA; Project/Program of the Year awards are nominated by firm principals.
Things we do to promote engagement and relieve stress.
: EBA has several events throughout the year to promote engagement with each other as well as engagement with the community. Events vary in size and include things such as the annual summer picnic and holiday party, which involve the entire company, to smaller events like department wide happy hours, visits to escape rooms, and bowling. Additionally, EBA organizes regular opportunities to volunteer with coworkers at a variety of community services events.
Credentials, Certificates, Awards, Memberships
EBA’s highly trained staff include licensed professional engineers, LEED accredited professionals, project management professionals, professional surveyors, certified construction managers, certified DBIAs, certified hazardous materials managers, and GIS professionals. Our staff also hold numerous inspection, materials testing, safety and health, environmental, and other related certifications.

EBA and its personnel have received several awards and commendations for excellence and innovation in our work from professional organizations including the American Council of Engineering Companies Maryland (ACEC/MD), American Council of Engineering Companies Metro-Washington (ACEC/MW), Esri, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Maryland, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration, among many others.
