About Emerging Technology Centers

The ETC, a venture of the Baltimore Development Corporation, is a non-profit business innovation center focused on growing early-stage technology companies. The ETC promotes economic development, providing business, technical, and networking connection...

Learn about our Commitment to our Workplace Culture.

  • The Pledge we Make to Employees that Join our Team
  • Just like our startups, we’re lean, agile and therefore everyone is required to do a little bit of everything. This means there's flexibility and room for professional growth, and just as we provide support to our growing startups, we also pledge to support our employees in their own professional growth by providing them with the mentorship and professional development they need to progress in their careers.
  • Culture Initiatives, Corporate Social Responsibility or Sustainability Efforts
  • Our Workplace Culture initiatives include professional development training, partial tuition reimbursement, and travel to industry conferences and workshops.
  • Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
  • Founded in the late 1990s as a non-profit 501(c)3 venture of the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC), the ETC (Emerging Technology Centers), promotes economic growth by providing its member companies with the resources they need — access to seed capital, mentors, potential partners, a collaborative community, etcetera — to get where they want to go, as quickly as possible. Our mission is to foster a transformative community of tech-savvy, innovative, entrepreneurial people looking for creative collaboration to accelerate their growth potential and make a powerful economic impact on the City of Baltimore and beyond.
  • What we do (products & services)
  • We offer a unique combination of a nurturing community of like-minded people, a variety of essential resources, a commitment to support and relationship-building, and a legacy of success. In other words, the tools and talent you need to grow your business. And more.
  • How does what we do align with our culture and attract certain types of employees.
  • You can sum up the atmosphere at the ETC in one word: growth. We value individualized, one-on-one mentorship and connections to critical resources, which we provide both for employees of ETC for their professional journeys as well as to our startups for their company journeys.
  • Here is our benefits package
  • Employer-paid health insurance (including vision and dental), HSA account, tuition reimbursement, retirement account, stocks
  • Why you will appreciate our office space, layout and environment.
  • Our incubator program includes a coworking space. ETC staff is consolidated in their own hub which has an open layout, just like the rest of the coworking space. We want to be accessible and as much a part of our community as possible.
  • Here is our commitment to wellness and fitness
  • The ETC includes a gym that is open to both members and staff.
  • How we handle flex-time and telecommuting
  • Flex time and telecommuting must be approved by leadership at our parent company, the Baltimore Development Corporation.
  • Our process for regular review and feedback for employees?
  • Employee reviews occur once a year. Executive staff meets with each employee and gives them feedback on what they're doing well and where there's room for improvement. The work atmosphere at ETC is very self-directed. Employees are expected to be able to manage their own tasks and deadlines and give updates on projects on a weekly basis.
  • How often do host employee meetings with CEO or leadership?
  • Weekly
  • How we handle employee recognition or appreciation programs
  • ETC leadership will sometimes buy lunch for employees during lunch meetings.
  • Credentials, Certificates, Awards, Memberships
