Where books meet wine, for lovers of both.

It's owned and operated by Mickie Meinhardt, a writer, wine-r, and Ocean City native. I began The Buzzed Word in 2019 as an Instagram series pairing books and wines (my two favorite things). Just like there are more books than you could ever read, there is more to wine than most people know. I wanted to shine a light on the little-known and new in both worlds, and to show that wine especially can be approachable, accessible, and fun. It soon grew to become a live event series in New York and Washington, D.C. called "Books & Bottles"; during the COVID-19 pandemic, it shifted to a Zoom book-and-wine club featuring author appearances and winemaker talks. Throughout its evolution, a physical space was on my mind—I wanted to bring all I loved about both things to Ocean City, where there is no bookstore, no source for natural wine, and no cozy community space to gather and enjoy both. I wanted to build a place where people can find exciting new authors and titles, and delicious, beautifully made wines from small producers around the world. Where you can come with a friend to share a bottle and a snack in an intimate space, or spend time browsing (or reading!) with a glass in hand.

Now, that space is here. We are open every day for retail and drinks, with tasting classes and other fun events always on the calendar. (For information on those and book clubs, see the events page.) You can now also order online—the wine must be picked up in store, but the books and gifts can ship nationwide.
