Recognition for top performers is practiced regularly with monthly awards. Individual departments and teams also have their own motivational contests for achievement. Recognized by several world-class training organizations, Choptank realized early on the need to train applicants with no experience in the industry. New employees can expect four weeks of in-depth training, both hands-on and classroom sessions. Once proficient in their roles, employees confidently get started in their careers while reaping the rewards of tuition reimbursement, student-loan paydown and a list of other corporate-style benefits. And that is only the beginning; employees can stay challenged through the company’s learning management system (LMS), Cornerstone. Cornerstone is an online portal that offers on-demand micro-lessons covering a wide range of topics. Users can become experts at excel, improve negotiating skills, or learn how to use Photoshop. Choptank provides performance-based results (PBR) training for rising star employees. These classes consist of intense group sessions that concentrate on an individual’s sales training and effectiveness. Another employee enhancement opportunity is Choptank’s MOD challenge, a process improvement exercise held annually. Employees are encouraged to submit ideas for innovation and improved efficiencies within the company. Choptank employees enjoy catered lunches, massage days, team-building outings, community involvement programs, and other events, giving them an outlet to blow off steam and recharge.

  • Our process for regular review and feedback for employees?
  • Mentoring and coaching are a part of our Core Value pledge and although it is featured every July as our Principle of the Month, employees receive regular training throughout the year through "Cornerstone" our learning management system (LMS). Choptank also conducts two annual surveys every year. One is through an outside, independent survey group and the other is through our HR, payroll, and benefits platform called Ultipro. We use these surveys to assess employee engagement as well as concerns.

  • Every salesperson hired by Choptank is given a clear career path for advancement. They are automatically enrolled in our Accreditation Program for Promotion. This series of courses combines instructor-led training with online class assignments. The curriculum is assigned depending on the job description. In addition to required learning, employees are assessed by their performance metrics and their ability to improve themselves and others through mentoring.

  • We have monthly "Lion Awards" that recognize top performers in sales and operations. In February, we announce the President's Club winners. This is an elite group of Choptank team members that have met certain goals within the year and as a reward, are treated to a four-day, three-night, all-expense paid trip to a tropical location with other award-winners, and of course, the President/CEO.

  • Company contests and individual team competitions are one of the stand-out things we do at Choptank. Every summer we hold ChopOlympics with a week-long series of fun and games to blow off steam and help raise money for a charitable cause. Employees also participate in community involvement events such as preparing dinners and playing softball with veterans at the Baltimore Station, recycling waste from the Inner Harbor with Mr. Trash Wheel, and other rewarding activities.
